Hazards / Earthquake events
USGS earthquake events in and around Georgia
The USGS FDSN Event Web Service returns GeoJSON earthquake events for a Georgia-area bounding box with origin and update times, magnitude, reviewed status, human-readable place, point geometry with depth, felt reports, intensity/alert values when available, network identifiers and quality metrics. A 2025-01-01 to 2026-07-22 query with magnitude at least 2 returned ten events, including a reviewed M4.1 event north-northwest of Tqibuli.
Provenance and access
How the data is reached
Unauthenticated FDSN query supporting time, magnitude, bbox, radial and event-ID filters. GeoJSON returns max 20,000 events by default limits; paginate or narrow large searches.
USGS-authored data are generally U.S. public domain unless otherwise noted; attribution is requested and embedded third-party products can have separate terms

Reliability, caveats, and privacy
What held up
- Query returned current generated timestamp and reviewed events
- Each event links to a detailed machine endpoint
- Quality metrics and update time support filtering
What can go wrong
- BBox includes neighboring territory and Black Sea; country names are descriptive, not a polygon filter
- Preliminary events can move or change magnitude/status
- Null alert or MMI means unavailable, not zero
- USGS completeness for small local earthquakes differs from Georgia's national seismic network
